Major Army Units at Schofield Barracks, HI:
- Longhand name: 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Stryker), 25th Infantry Division
- Shorthand name: 2nd SBCT, 25th ID
- Common abbreviations for this unit: 2-25 SBCT; 2-25 ID; 2 SBCT-25 ID
- Major subordinate units (battalion level) -- click the links below to go to these units' special pages inside RallyPoint.com:
- 2-14 CAV -- 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment
- 1-14 IN -- 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment
- 1-21 IN -- 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment
- 1-27 IN -- 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment
- 2-11 FA -- 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery Regiment
- 225th BSB -- 225th Brigade Support Battalion
- Why "Stryker"?
- The primary tactical vehicle utilized by the maneuver battalions shown here is the Stryker. For those of you who aren't familiar with Army vehicles, it's simplest to think of the Stryker as a hybrid of sorts between a Humvee (HMMWV) and an Abrams tank.
- These units will also have Humvees on their property books, as well as other support-type vehicles like M1083s, but the Stryker is what makes this unit distinctive.
- I personally used a Stryker for a few years in 1-27 IN (one of the above units) and it's an incredible vehicle. If you get the chance, it's a real pleasure to serve in a Stryker unit.
---------------------------------
3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division
- Longhand name: 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Light), 25th Infantry Division
- Shorthand name: 3rd BCT, 25th ID
- Common abbreviations for this unit: 3-25 BCT; 3-25 ID; 3 BCT-25 ID
- Major subordinate units (battalion level) -- click the links below to go to these units' special pages inside RallyPoint.com:
- 3-4 CAV -- 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment
- 2-27 IN -- 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment
- 2-35 IN -- 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment
- 3-7 FA -- 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment
- 325th BSB -- 325th Brigade Support Battalion
- Why "Light"?
- Infantry brigades are categorizes as "Light" when their main tactical vehicle is the standard Humvee. Unlike 2nd SBCT above, 3rd BCT does not utikize Stryker combat vehicles.
25th ID unit patch and motto
- Patch: Shown at the right is the 25th Infantry Division's patch -- this is the patch worn by 2nd SBCT and 3rd BCT. So, the vast majority of Army personnel at Schofield Barracks, HI are part of the 25th Infantry Division and wear this patch.
- Motto: The motto of the 25th ID is "Tropic Lightning" -- some people like to call this patch the "electric strawberry" and you can see why...just check out the patch's design! :)
---------------------------------
500th Military Intelligence Brigade
- Longhand name: 500th Military Intelligence Brigade, US Army Pacific
- Shorthand name: 500th MI BDE, USARPAC
- Common abbreviations for this unit: 500th MI
- Major subordinate units (battalion level) -- click the links below to go to these units' special pages inside RallyPoint.com:
- 15th MI -- 15th Military Intelligence Battalion
- 205th MI -- 205th Military Intelligence Battalion
- 301st MI -- 301st Military Intelligence Battalion
- 441st MI -- 441st Military Intelligence Battalion
- 715th MI -- 715th Military Intelligence Battalion
- 732nd MI -- 732nd Military Intelligence Battalion
- How does this Military Intelligence Brigade function on deployment?
- Large MI brigades like this one typically do not deploy as a whole, since this is not a maneuver organization, but instead directly supports maneuver units of US Army Pacific (mainly the 25th ID's 2x brigades above).
- So, what happens is when 2nd SBCT or 3rd BCT above mobilize and then deploy, appropriate subordinate elements of the 500th MI BDE will be deployed in direct support of their combat operations in theater. This is generally what the abbreviation DS implies -- "Direct Support."
- 500th MI BDE patch:
- The patch of the 500th MI BDE is shown at the right. It is not uncommon for deployed elements of the 500th MI BDE to instead wear the combat patch of the maneuver brigade they were in Direct Support of.
- In garrison, the subordinate battalions of the 500th MI BDE would be expected to wear this patch according to standard Army uniform regulations.
---------------------------------
8th Theater Sustainment Command
- Longhand name: 8th Theater Sustainment Command, US Army Pacific
- Shorthand name: 8th TSC, USARPAC
